Volunteering in Rio

 
We offer volunteer program opportunities in very established, structured, organized projects throughout Rio de Janeiro. Regardless of your passion, skill set, educational training, or life experience we can find a project for you where you can put it all too good use. We work with one of the largest NGO umbrella organizations in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We also work with many independent NGO projects. We have opportunities for students, physicians, dentists, nurses, teachers, social workers, athletes, counselors, engineers, IT professionals, carpenters, musicians, artists, or anybody else that has a sincere desire to volunteer and make a difference. Our international volunteer program is great for students that want to take their studies to higher level and gain a deeper experience and understanding by working abroad and through international volunteering. It is also a great program for a couple wanting to volunteer abroad and travel together internationally creating lasting memories and through their combined efforts creating a positive impact for others.

Through our application process we will determine what you really want to accomplish with your volunteer experience; and there is an excellent chance we can find the perfect fit for you and the project. This is what we do. We work with so many NGO’s that we can provide placement in projects that deal with health promotion, medical clinics, pre natal nursing, sporting programs, website development, dance, music, theater, teaching english, drug and alcohol recovery, nutrition, and everything in between. Also don't worry if you do not have any special training or experience; we can find a project for you that you will make a difference; you must just posses a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of others through your international volunteerism.

The first step is contacting us and tellings us a little about yourself. Your professional and educational background, special skills or abilities, interests, and pursuits. Also tell us what your dream volunteer experience might look like and what you want to do or accomplish through this volunteer opportunity. We will then determine a start date and completion date. (2 week minimum) We will work with both you and the project to establish a clear goal(s) that through your efforts will be achieved. Thus giving you the satisfaction of knowing you accomplished something special, and more importantly you made a tangible difference in the lives of those in the community you worked in. The work schedule is completely up to you and the project coordinator.

Once the application process is complete and an arrival date is determined and project selected we will email you some pre-program materials. These items will make your experience here in Rio de Janeiro much more productive and enjoyable and allow you to come to Brazil prepared. Once you arrive you will be picked up at the airport by our transportation service and taken to the lodging partner of your choice. We work with some of the most respected, vibrant, comfortable hostels in Rio. We also have guest houses available and even apartments. We can provide a single room environment in a hostel, dorm type living, a single room in a guest house or in an apartment. Our hostel partners offer free breakfast, wifi, and many other extras. Our lodging partners are in some of Rio’s best neighborhoods close to beaches, dining, and nightlife. We can accommodate singles, couples, small and large groups.

Once you arrive we will conduct a very detailed and comprehensive orientation with you. We will also accompany you on your first day to your volunteer project. We will also check in with you at your project throughout your stay. We will be available to you 24/7 while you are in Rio de Janeiro. Once you have completed your volunteer program here in Rio de Janeiro you will be presented with a certificate of completion naming you and the project. When it is time for you to travel home (this will be the hard part) our private transportation service will pick you up and take you to the airport.

No other international volunteer placement organization in Rio works with NGO’s as structured, organized, professional, and safe as we do. Nobody works with as many projects as we do; this is why we can offer such a wide variety of opportunities. We are not some organization that does business outside of Brazil making hollow promises and saying they care about the people of Rio de Janeiro. We live here, this is our home, we walk down the same streets and shop in the same markets. We have dedicated our lives to social change. When we say a large percentage of your program fee goes directly to the project that is the truth. Project Favela is not a business in business to make money. It is about effecting change, opening eyes, changing lives, and in the end we hope a positive transformation occurs that makes this world just a little bit better. It is very important to us that you are in a project you feel good about and can have an impact. In the end it is how your efforts benefit the lives of those you work with and for, and the difference you make. Almost half of your placement cost goes directly to the NGO you are working with. We structure our program so that you can have the maximum benefit to those you are working for.
